Sandwich-insulated doubles, custom wood, full-view glass or 18-footers: 3/4 HP to 1-1/4 HP class earns its price in strain margin and lifespan. High-lift and jackshaft applications follow their own sizing. DC-driven units, most of the modern market, rate in Newtons or marketing classes; treat brand tiers as the ladder and pick the tier matching your door class.
Pull the release cord and lift: one smooth hand to waist height and the door floats, your current horsepower is fine and any struggling opener has a mechanical or spring problem.
