When a garage door refuses to close and the opener lights flash, the photo-eye sensors are vetoing the close, and ninety percent of the time the cure is cleaning the lenses, re-squaring the brackets until both LEDs hold steady, and freeing the wire from whatever pinched it.

Each eye carries an indicator: typically one amber sender that stays lit no matter what, and one green receiver that lights only when the beam lands. Green off or flickering: the eyes are out of line or something sits in the path, including cobwebs, leaf litter and a garbage bin handle. Wipe both lenses with a dry cloth, loosen the wing nut, and swing the receiver until green locks solid.
Brackets bolted to flexible track legs drift every time the door slams; squaring them is normal maintenance, not failure.
Sensor wire is thin, stapled along walls and ceilings, and gets nicked by one staple in a hundred. Symptoms of a wire fault: codes that come and go with weather, sensors that die when the door vibrates, LEDs that flicker when you wiggle the wire at the motor head. Trace the run end to end; splices, chew marks and staples through insulation are all confessions.
Reversed polarity after a DIY reconnect, white and black swapped at the terminals, produces the same dead-eye symptoms and costs nothing to fix.
A door that closes fine all day and reverses at sunset is receiving low-angle sun straight into the receiver eye. A short cardboard shade tube over the receiving eye, or swapping sender and receiver sides, ends the ghost. When an eye is truly dead, cracked housing, water inside, no LED with confirmed power and wire, replacement pairs are inexpensive and brand-matched; it is among the cheapest calls we run.
